Formative Search has begun working closely with an innovative company who are investing heavily to be a pioneer in wastewater treatment for corporates. They are promoting the use of advanced technology to change how water is being used by companies around Asia. They are building and operating Water Treatment plants for Fortune 500 brands, MNCs, and SMEs in Asia, doing this through their unique water technology solutions being installed on site.
They have engaged us on a search for a Business Development Manager to expand their Commercial & Industrial business across ASEAN, but based from Singapore. They are looking for a technical sales or business development professional who can take up the challenge of educating customers about this amazing new technology that can bring better costs, and major environment benefits as a result.
What are the main responsibilities of the BDM?
Market research across the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) business, including but not limited to marketing, business development, review, and budgeting cycle in South East Asian countries.
Segmentation and target the industry including identification of customer opportunities, market entry strategy, establishing a balance of long-term pipeline, and short-term revenue.
Manage business communications internally and externally, including project press releases, case study development, and videos.
Create country market intelligence packs to inform price and place decisions. Establish scalable promotional tools and processes including B2B digital marketing.
Structure and Industrialize the process around identifying and serving customers’ needs to match the company’s corporate strategy between teams in the different geographies, regional hub, and HQ.
Source potential leads for partnerships, joint-ventures, and equity investment.
Educate the customers and walk them through the journey of bringing this new waste water technology into their operations as part of a permanent approach.
Design cooperation structures, define role-sharing, and assess the economics of these partnerships or joint-ventures.
Liaise with banks and project finance team in HQ for the refinancing of asset portfolio; Financial model follow-up and optimization.
Performance will be assessed by pipeline generation, projects closed, project profitability, revenue, customer relationship enhancement, brand influence, enhanced competitiveness, and team building.
What will a successful BDM look like?
A Water professional with a minimum of 7 years of experience in technical sales, marketing, or business development roles within the water or wastewater industry, either globally, or ideally in Asia.
Someone who knows how to analyze the market to identify attractive customers, and can learn our client's technology solidly in a short space of time.
Graduate from a premier university with a degree in business, finance, or economics. In the progress of post-graduate degree, MBA, and/or related professional qualifications
Has familiarity with financial aspects of a water project, as well as the economic and financial models and project financing principals
Ability to create presentations to be shared with investors and financiers, and able to negotiate on high-value contracts and help bring them to a close.
Be able to cultivate leads, account manage, and spend the necessary time and effort to interact with clients in a long sales cycle, helping them to sign projects with our client.
Stay focused on closing multiple projects in different countries around ASEAN, aligning to the various cultural nuances in a fragmented market.
