Job description
The role would be part of a small legal team and cover a broad range of matters involving projects across Japan.Responsibilities:
- Handle a broad range of general corporate and commercial matters such as drafting, reviewing and negotiating various types of contracts with a view to providing legal advice in order to finalise contracts while protecting the interests of the company.
- Assist with the provision of legal support and advice to senior management and all internal stakeholders on legal and compliance matters.
- Monitor changes to regulatory requirements and proactively handle regulatory developments and compliance updates.
- Draft, review and negotiate with external counterparts on a variety of agreements, and other related documents.
- Review and provide recommendations on the legal aspects and considerations for resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.
- Develop and manage legal operations tools and legal technology solutions to streamline new or existing practices, optimise workflows and support day-to-day function.
- Provide time-sensitive support on a wide array of legal and compliance inquiries in all operational aspects.
- Where external counsels are appointed, manage external counsels within the agreed budget.
Requirements:
- A degree in law from a reputable university
- Between 1-3 years’ experience in private practice with a recognized law firm or in-house with a multinational corporation
- Strong drafting skills (in English) with excellent attention to detail;
- Assertiveness, responsiveness, flexibility (must be able to adapt quickly to the context and to complex and varied situations), autonomy and sense of initiative;
- Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
- Ability to effectively interact with different types/levels of people including senior business leaders.
- Ability to integrate business and legal considerations to produce practical and cost effective legal advice.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with ability to communicate and present complex ideas effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to quickly identify the issues, exercise sound judgement, and manage execution under pressure.
- Fluency in English and Japanese.
