PPA Director, APAC
About the job
About our Client
A large infrastructure investor backed renewable energy developer and independent power producer with operations across across Asia-Pacific. The business has over 5GW in development and pipeline across solar, battery storage, and hybrid solutions.
The Role
The Director, PPA will own the origination, structuring, and execution of corporate and utility-scale power purchase agreements across Asia-Pacific. You will be taking complex deals from first contact through to signed contract, working directly with C&I customers, utilities, retailers, and trading counterparties across deregulated markets including Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, and South Korea.
This is not a sales role. It requires genuine command of PPA structuring mechanics, offtake economics, and market-specific regulatory and grid frameworks. The successful candidate will eventually close large-scale transactions independently and is expected to reach full autonomy within one to two years.
You will report to senior leadership and collaborate closely with project development, legal, and finance teams internally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead PPA origination, negotiation, and execution across target markets, with a focus on deregulated power environments
- Develop and refine offtake strategy by market and project type, including corporate PPAs, utility offtake, and VPPA structures
- Build and manage relationships with C&I customers, retailers, utilities, and trading counterparties
- Coordinate internally across project development, investment, legal, and finance to bring transactions through to close
- Stay close to regulatory and market developments in active geographies and translate that into commercial positioning
- Support M&A and project acquisition processes where offtake is a value driver
- Represent the business with external stakeholders, industry bodies, and customers
Ideal Background
- Track record of PPA structuring and deal execution in Asia-Pacific, not just origination or account management, but closing complex offtake transactions
- Experience at an energy trader, trading house, major utility, oil major energy arm, or an IPP developer
- Deep familiarity with at least one deregulated power market (Japan, Philippines, Singapore, or South Korea); ability to apply that knowledge to new markets
- Understanding of PPA economics, LCOE, grid integration, and the regulatory frameworks that govern offtake in target markets
- Strong stakeholder management, and comfortable presenting to senior executives internally and negotiating with sophisticated external counterparties
What This Role Is Not
- A business development or sales role with a secondary understanding of PPA mechanics
- A market research or advisory function, this is a deal execution seat
- A role suited to candidates whose experience is limited to non-deregulated markets like in Indonesia, or Malaysia.
This is a truly unique opportunity, and compensation will be competitive with seniority, structured to attract a director-level profile. If you really believe that this is a fit, contact Adam@formativesearch.com over a confidential call.
