SENIOR PROJECT DEVELOPER

Formative Search has secured a project with one of the world’s leading solar companies in the region. Our client is investing heavily to grow their presence amongst the utility solar space in South East Asia, working on expanding their project development team to maintain its position as one of the global leaders in supply of green solar power in the emerging markets. They are looking for a highly motivated and energized Senior Project Developer to join their growing regional hub in Kuala Lumpur.
This role will be responsible for leading the development and structuring of solar projects from early opportunity through the development cycle to financial close. The ability to structure and negotiate complex transactions, to lead external and internal development processes, and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams is key in order to successfully lead the project to construction start. Significant prior experience from managing complex transactions is a must.
The successful candidate will be covering many of the most dynamic economies of the 21st century and will be an integral resource in reaching the company’s target of another 2 GW in operation over the next 3 years. He/She will be part of a fast paced and energized team and will be constantly challenged to develop the company’s project portfolio as well as his/her own personal skills.
The Senior Project Developer will have the following responsibilities:
Lead negotiations for project acquisition and manage the acquisition/transaction process
Lead process to secure equity and debt finance for projects until financial close
Lead negotiations with prospective development partners and assume responsibility for external relationships
Lead and coordinate internal and external project development efforts including securing land, obtaining required local permits and approvals, securing interconnection rights from utilities, negotiating PPAs with utilities, establishing EPC and O&M agreements, as well as securing project equity and debt financing.
Lead market reviews, analyzing regulatory issues and policy supports for utility-scale solar and develop development strategies for countries or regions
Lead bidding processes to submit bid packages in response to Request for Proposals (RFPs) from utilities and private off-takers
Manage development teams, often numbering 10-20 individuals, including internal resources, consultants and development subcontractors
The academic and working experience background needed for the role :
Bachelor’s degree in Commercial or technical university level degree
5 - 10 years professional experience ideally from investment banking and/or project finance/operations and/or leading global management consulting firms
Experience with closing complex transactions, deal structuring and project finance
Significant experience with renewable project development in emerging markets
Understanding of power markets and in particular renewable energy
Working knowledge and understanding of power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, permitting requirements and EPC contract terms and conditions is preferable, but not required
