Job description

Formative Search has begun working closely with an exciting international renewables platform that is expanding into onshore Renewable Energy across Asia Pacific, and set to make massive waves in the market. With a true vision of accelerating the global deployment of Solar, Wind, and Energy Storage as a key enabler for the energy transition, they are committed to hiring a VP of Origination and BD for APAC whom will lead their Corporate PPA efforts across the region.

What are the main responsibilities for the VP of Business Development?

  • Participate actively in relevant investment decisions providing inputs and insights during relevant business meetings.

  • Develop and lead sales strategies in Asia relating to power corporate sales, wholesale markets, RECs markets and ancillary services.

  • Create, attract, develop, retain and maintain a network of relationships with corporates and utility buyers across Asia and cooperate with other partners in the region.

  • Originate, structure, negotiate and execute PPAs with corporates, RE100 companies, utility companies, traders, aggregators, local communities, smart cities and/or industrial customers.

  • Assess the counterparties financial credibility in-depth but also offtake capabilities, demand, preferred structures, prices and required internal approval process and long-term goals.

  • Proactively develop new offtake products to optimize risks/reward between the equity, debt service and other covenants by the lenders and PPA counterparties requirements.

  • Work closely with different functions and teams in the Asia platform such as business, finance, engineering and operations as well as external parties, banks and investors in order to ensure that power revenue streams always meet the optimal risk / reward profile.

  • Provide updates to the business on offtake pricing and energy markets, carbon markets, regional trends, potential regulatory changes and new business opportunities to key management team.

  • Ensure the efficient delivery of revenue structuring for projects in the development pipeline, and backlog (solar, onshore wind, storage, balancing response systems).

  • Leading a deal team of experts and advisors in target markets in Asia to execute and manage revenue contracts in direct investment or through partnerships to support all commercial activities related to energy sales contracts.

What will a successful VP of Business Development look like?

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, engineering or related.

  • MBA or equivalent certification is preferred.

  • 10 years’ experience in Business or Sales position with industrial clients

  • Track-record of successful sales transactions to energy players and related organizations

  • Experience in structuring and negotiating PPAs contracts with corporate off-takers in Asia

  • Experience in the renewable energy sector, notably with wind and solar PV, storage a plus

  • Expert command over Excel and project finance modeling an simulation concepts

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders

  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task in a fast-moving and dynamic environment

  • Be self-motivated, independent, assertive, resilient, and results driven.
