Are you a commercially-minded legal professional passionate about driving Australia’s renewable energy transition? We’re seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a leading global renewable energy company on a 12-month fixed term contract based in Melbourne.
This is a rare opportunity to work on high-impact projects across solar, wind, and battery storage, contributing directly to Australia’s Net Zero targets while gaining exposure to transactions across the APAC region.
The Role
As Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll provide strategic legal advice and leadership across the full lifecycle of renewable energy projects, with a particular focus on:
- Leading and closing complex negotiations with landholders, network service providers, AEMO, financiers, OEMs, contractors, and other key stakeholders
- Managing M&A transactions including due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and execution of acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate restructuring
- Providing commercially balanced legal advice on transaction risks, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance
- Conducting legal research and analysis to support strategic decision-making and risk mitigation
- Collaborating across APAC – work on matters beyond Australia, gaining broader regional experience
- Mentoring and developing legal capabilities within the APAC team
About You
Essential:
- 6-12 years PQE in Australia, gained at a reputable law firm with strong renewable energy exposure or in-house in a similar role
- Admitted to practice in an Australian State or Territory
- Strong M&A transactional experience is essential
- Proven expertise in renewable energy project development, construction/procurement, project financing, and PPA negotiations
- Deep understanding of the Australian electricity market and regulatory environment
- Exceptional negotiation, drafting, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple transactions and stakeholders under tight deadlines
Highly Regarded:
- Dispute resolution experience
- Project development & construction, real estate/property, or financing experience
