Senior Originator (Power Markets & Renewables) - APAC
About the job
Our client is a specialist energy trading firm focused on optimising and trading power portfolios across global markets, with a growing emphasis on renewable energy and the energy transition. They are seeking a highly self-driven and entrepreneurial Business Development Manager to expand their power trading and renewables origination footprint across APAC. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role focused on originating, structuring, and advancing commercial opportunities in power and renewable energy markets that directly contribute to trading desk performance.
The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in power markets and a comprehensive understanding of renewable energy dynamics, with the capability to independently source and execute transactions in competitive, fast-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, originate, and develop new trading and structured opportunities across power markets and renewable energy products, including PPAs, capacity contracts, RECs, and environmental certificates.
- Lead commercial discussions around power market structures — including spot, forward, and structured offtake arrangements — and drive negotiations through to execution.
- Partner closely with trading, risk, legal, and operations to align opportunities with strategy, credit appetite, and risk parameters.
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships with renewable energy developers, IPPs, utilities, C&I offtakers, grid-scale storage players, brokers, and financial institutions.
- Develop and manage a robust pipeline of counterparties across the renewables and power sectors, with a focus on long-term structured transactions.
- Monitor power market fundamentals, renewable energy penetration trends, pricing dynamics, grid developments, and regulatory changes across APAC to identify profitable entry points.
- Contribute directly to regional growth initiatives across key APAC power markets, including Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan.
- Maintain visibility over pipeline conversion and commercial impact, with clear accountability for revenue contribution.
- Provide actionable market intelligence on renewable energy trends and power market reform to inform trading strategy.
Requirements
- 7-10+ years’ experience in power markets, renewable energy origination, or energy trading within a trading house, utility, IPP, or commodity-focused institution.
- Proven track record of independently sourcing and closing transactions in power markets — including PPAs, structured offtakes, or wholesale power agreements.
- Strong understanding of power market fundamentals, renewable energy project economics, trading structures, and credit dynamics.
- Familiarity with APAC power market frameworks and energy transition policy across key markets. Ability to operate autonomously with high accountability in performance-driven environments.
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with an established network across the renewables and power sectors.
