This is an excellent opportunity to join their well-established in-house legal team.
  
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join the Singapore-based legal team, providing strategic legal advice on commodities trading and shipping matters. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, cross-border transactions within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  
Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on commodities trading arrangements, including physical and derivative transactions
  • Draft, review, and negotiate shipping contracts, charter parties, and related maritime documentation
  • Provide legal support on sale and purchase agreements for mineral commodities
  • Manage and advise on disputes arising from trading and shipping activities, including commodity claims and demurrage matters
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, sanctions, and export controls
  • Work closely with commercial teams, traders, and operations to support business objectives
  • Liaise with external counsel on contentious and non-contentious matters
  • Support risk management initiatives and contribute to the development of standard form documentation
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory developments

  
Essential Requirements

  • Qualified solicitor in Singapore (or equivalent common law qualification) with 6-10 years PQE
  • Substantial experience in commodities trading and/or shipping law gained at a leading international law firm or multinational company
  • Strong knowledge of international trade law, including Incoterms, letters of credit, and documentary trade
  • Experience with charter parties (voyage and time charters), bills of lading, and other shipping documentation
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Ability to provide pragmatic, commercial legal advice in a fast-moving environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across diverse teams
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail

  
Desirable Experience

  • Understanding of mining operations and mineral commodities markets
  • Experience with international arbitration (LCIA, ICC, LMAA)
  • Knowledge of sanctions, export controls, and anti-corruption regulations
  • Experience advising on logistics, warehousing, or supply chain matters
  • Additional language skills
