About the job

Our client is a fast-growing, energy trading company, now scaling its operations across APAC. They are looking for a Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant to join their Finance team in Singapore and keep the books for their APAC entities accurate, timely and audit-ready as the business grows.

This is a role for someone early in their accounting career who wants real ownership from day one, works precisely, and is ready for a steep learning curve in a fast-moving corner of the energy industry.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Maintain the general ledger for the APAC entities – posting journals, keeping the chart of accounts clean, and ensuring entries are accurate, complete and booked on time
  • Own the day-to-day bookkeeping cycle: accounts payable, accounts receivable, employee expense claims, bank postings and payment runs
  • Prepare monthly bank, intercompany and balance sheet reconciliations, and follow up on differences until they are cleared
  • Support month-end close for the Singapore and Japan entities, including accruals, prepayments and supporting schedules
  • Process Japanese-language invoices, vendor statements and bank documentation for the Tokyo entity, and liaise with local vendors, banks and the Japanese tax agent
  • Keep records orderly and audit-ready to support external audit, tax filings and indirect tax returns
  • Help improve and automate routine finance processes as the business rolls out a new ERP

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 1-2 years of experience in an accounting, bookkeeping or finance role – this is a role for someone at the start of their career, not a senior hire
  • Hands-on experience maintaining a general ledger and posting journals in an accounting system or ERP
  • Comfortable with reconciliations – bank, intercompany and balance sheet
  • Business-level Japanese, alongside professional English – both will be used daily
  • A diploma or degree in accountancy, finance or a related field, or working towards a professional qualification
  • Confident in Excel and quick to pick up new systems
  • Accurate, organised and deadline-driven, with the discipline to keep clean documentation behind every entry

WHAT’S ON OFFER

  • Broad exposure across the full finance cycle from day one, rather than a narrow slice of it
  • High autonomy in a flat, fast-moving organisation
  • Health insurance and flexible working
