Business Development Manager (BESS) - Italy
About the job
A leading energy storage platform backed by long-term infrastructure capital is seeking a highly skilled Business Development Manager to lead the origination and execution of commercial agreements for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)projects across Italy.
This position is ideal for a commercial leader with a deep understanding of Italy’s power market, energy contracting, and the commercial value stack of grid-connected storage.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate, structure, and negotiate commercial agreements (e.g., PPAs, tolling arrangements, capacity and ancillary service contracts) for grid-scale BESS assets.
- Lead commercial engagement with corporate energy buyers, energy retailers, and aggregators to structure long-term energy solutions.
- Identify and evaluate market opportunities across Italy’s revenue stack: capacity payments (MACSE & CM), arbitrage, ancillary services (UVAM), and balancing markets.
- Collaborate with internal teams (development, finance, legal, regulatory) to ensure alignment of commercial contracts with investment cases and asset optimisation.
- Monitor regulatory developments from ARERA, Terna, and GSE, and assess their impact on BESS deployment and bilateral contracting.
- Support investment decisions and commercial strategy by contributing insights on revenue contracting structures and market dynamics.
- Represent the platform in discussions with potential counterparties, industry groups, and at commercial forums.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, economics, or a related field.
- 5 – 8+ years of experience in Italy’s energy sector, ideally in energy origination, trading, or commercial roles within renewables, storage, or utility-scale infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of Italy’s power market design, including capacity mechanisms (MACSE/CM), bilateral energy contracts, and balancing services.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating corporate PPAs, structured energy contracts, or utility-scale asset monetisation deals.
- Full professional fluency in Italian and strong command of English.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with BESS, hybrid renewable-storage systems, or grid flexibility technologies.
- Experience engaging with RE100 corporates, industrials, or data centre operators on decarbonization pathways and clean energy procurement.
- Exposure to cross-border European power markets, Guarantees of Origin (GO), or EU initiatives like REPowerEU.
With Italy set to deploy over 9 GW of new storage under MACSE by 2030, this is a rare opportunity to join a platform driving the energy transition through commercial innovation and market-first storage strategies. If you’re looking to lead from the front, we want to hear from you.
