Technical Director – Renewable Energy (Solar)

Role Overview
The Technical Director will lead engineering, project delivery, and operations & maintenance for a growing renewable energy portfolio in the Philippines. The role will oversee all technical aspects of utility-scale solar and C&I rooftop projects from early-stage development through construction and asset lifecycle management.
Reporting to the Regional Head of Project Delivery, the Technical Director will manage a local technical team of up to 10 professionals and act as a senior technical leader within the country platform.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to international best-practice standards.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering
- Enforce standardized technical specifications for solar PV systems, transmission lines, and substations
- Apply value engineering to optimize cost, performance, and sustainability
- Integrate latest technologies and best practices in renewable systems
- Review and approve engineering designs and documentation
- Coordinate grid interconnection studies and compliance
- Collaborate with regional engineering centers for seamless design integration
Project Management
- Oversee construction and commissioning of solar PV plants and associated infrastructure
- Manage schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies
- Utilize advanced project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent)
- Provide regular reporting to regional leadership and JV partners
- Manage EPC contractors and milestone tracking
Operations & Maintenance
- Develop and implement O&M strategy for utility-scale and distributed assets
- Establish preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Monitor performance using SCADA and analytics
- Manage spare parts, warranties, and vendor relationships
- Drive cost optimization and reliability improvements
- Oversee third-party service providers and SLAs
Commercial & Development Support
- Provide technical input during early-stage development
- Support proposal preparation including design and cost estimates
- Participate in customer meetings when required
- Assist in risk assessment of new projects
- Support M&A technical due diligence and investment committee reporting
HSE & Quality
- Develop and enforce HSE standards
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and international best practices
- Implement QA/QC processes across design, construction, and operations
- Promote a strong safety culture
Contract Management
- Lead technical evaluation and negotiation of EPC contracts
- Ensure risk mitigation in technical agreements
- Demonstrate strong understanding of FIDIC and international contract structures
Leadership
- Lead and mentor a high-performing technical team
- Drive recruitment, succession planning, and team development
- Provide strategic direction aligned with regional objectives
- Foster collaboration and accountability within the organization
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil); Master’s preferred
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in renewable energy
- Proven track record delivering at least 200 MW of renewable projects
- Experience with solar PV, transmission lines, substations, and battery storage
- Strong project controls, reporting, and risk management capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with document management and remote collaboration systems
- Fluent in English
- Willingness to travel frequently within the Philippines
