An international renewable energy developer and asset owner is seeking an Investment Manager / Director to support expansion in Japan. The role will focus on project due diligence, financing, and regulatory engagement, particularly in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial and commercial due diligence on prospective projects and acquisitions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with banks, lenders, and financing institutions to structure and secure project financing.
  • Negotiate with local authorities, regulators, and utilities on permits, contracts, and market participation.
  • Build and review financial models and investment cases to support decision-making.
  • Manage deal execution, including documentation, negotiations, and investment committee processes.
  • Support portfolio optimization and monitor performance of operating assets.
  • Provide insights on the Japanese energy and storage market to guide strategic growth.

 
Qualifications

  • 7-12+ years of experience in project finance, infrastructure/energy investment, or corporate development.
  • Proven track record in renewable energy transactions in Japan; BESS exposure preferred.
  • Strong relationships with local banks and financial institutions.
  • Experience in regulatory processes and stakeholder engagement with Japanese authorities/utilities.
  • Advanced financial modelling and valuation skills.
  • Fluency in Japanese and English required; advanced degree (MBA, CFA, or equivalent) preferred.
