As Legal Counsel, you will provide comprehensive legal support and risk management services across the group’s operations. Working closely with the General Counsel and senior leadership, you will handle a diverse range of legal matters spanning shipping, commercial contracts, corporate transactions, and regulatory compliance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a shipping lawyer looking to move in-house or build on existing in-house experience in a dynamic, commercially focused environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts including charterparties, MOAs, service agreements, supplier agreements, and shipbuilding contracts
• Manage and advise on shipping disputes relating to charterparties, cargo claims, and maritime operations
• Support corporate and finance transactions including joint ventures and capital market deals
• Provide legal support for the establishment of foreign subsidiaries and branch offices
• Assist with insurance and mortgage documentation
• Develop and implement policies, procedures and compliance frameworks
• Handle company secretarial matters including board minutes, powers of attorney and corporate documentation
• Review and enhance legal processes, systems and records across the group
• Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external counsel

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Qualified lawyer in Singapore (or dual-qualified with another common law jurisdiction)
• 5-10 years PQE with strong shipping and maritime law experience
• Background in charterparty disputes, commercial contracts and shipping operations
• Experience in contentious matters (arbitration/litigation) highly valued
• Prior in-house experience or secondments advantageous but not essential
• Commercially minded with ability to provide practical, business-focused advice
• Strong negotiation and contract drafting skills
• Experience with P&I, FD&D or insurance matters beneficial
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across cultures
• Team player with supervisory experience or potential
