About the job

Our client is a rapidly growing international energy trading firm with institutional backing and a strong Asia-Pacific presence. Built over the last decade as a technology-first operation, the business combines proprietary trading with a growing renewables portfolio across utility-scale storage and long-term PPAs.

They are seeking a Power Trader to join their Australian desk on a permanent basis, based in either Singapore or Sydney. This is a dedicated screen-trading seat with full autonomy over execution and risk-taking, offering compensation structured to match top fund rates.

  • Trade the full East Coast Australian electricity curve—spot through to calendar years several years forward—with genuine autonomy over speculative positions and real P&L ownership
  • Execute across ASX futures and OTC markets simultaneously, working with proprietary analytics and live fundamentals data in a fast-moving environment
  • Competitive base plus meaningful share of a profitability-based bonus pool, with substantial upside in strong years, in a modern, flat, motivated team

Preferred Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of speculative or proprietary trading experience, ideally in Australian power markets
  • Deep knowledge of the NEM: a data-rich, fundamentals-heavy market where you understand the mechanics and can act on model-driven signals
  • Proven track record managing your own capital and positions against real risk limits, with direct P&L accountability
  • Tech-forward mindset: you work effectively with model-driven signals and live data feeds rather than spreadsheets and intuition
  • Autonomous, confident temperament with the ability to stay calm under sustained pressure while collaborating closely with a small, tight team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earlier-career spot desk experience at a utility or energy company, providing foundational NEM knowledge
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the Asia-Pacific region, approximately every 2-3 months
  • Familiarity with ASX energy futures markets and OTC trading conventions in Australian power
