Senior Business Development Manager (Renewable Energy) - Philippines/Malaysia

Formative is partnering with a major international energy company with a fast-growing renewable energy platform spanning solar, wind, and battery storage across multiple regions to hire a Senior Business Development Manager in the Philippines and Malaysia.
The role leads origination, development, and maturation of a pipeline of renewable energy opportunities, including greenfield projects, tenders, partnerships, and acquisitions, progressing them through internal governance from early-stage development to Notice to Proceed / Financial Close. The individual will work closely with internal stakeholders to build the pipeline and structure bankable deals.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, screen, and develop renewable energy opportunities (solar, wind, storage, hybrid solutions), building and maintaining a pipeline across greenfield projects, tenders, partnerships, and acquisitions.
- Build relationships with developers, landowners, utilities, partners, regulators, and advisors, acting as the main point of contact for commercial discussions and local partnerships.
- Lead negotiation and structuring of JVs, partnerships, and development agreements, including tender submissions, acquisitions, and key commercial agreements (e.g. JDA, SHA, SPA).
- Work with legal, finance, and technical teams to ensure bankable deal structures; prepare and review financial models, investment cases, and valuation analysis.
- Coordinate with development, engineering, and financing teams to progress projects through stage gates, supporting discussions on permitting, offtake, EPC, lenders, and regulatory engagement.
- Monitor regulatory developments, competitive landscape, and policy evolution in target markets, feeding insights into business strategy.
- Prepare investment cases and presentation materials for internal decision-making; track pipeline performance and report to leadership.
- Openness to frequent travel required.
Main requirements
- 8-12+ years of relevant experience in business development, project development, or commercial roles within renewables, power, or infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of the economic, technical, and regulatory aspects of the renewable energy industry.
- Proven experience in deal origination, negotiation, and stakeholder management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
- Fluent English required; additional regional languages a plus.
