Job description

We are working with a global powerhouse in the energy and utilities space that is looking to bring on a seasoned General Counsel. The role will be based in Singapore and cover a number of jurisdictions across Asia.

 Responsibilities

  • Manage the legal affairs of all the company’s entities and build / lead the local legal team to provide legal services as a true business partner
  • Implement and monitor corporate compliance measures (anti-trust, privacy etc)
  • Provide quality and timely legal advice to the business in areas such as:
    • Contract review, drafting and negotiation
    • general commercial transactions;
    • disputes and litigation;
    • employment and safety;
    • product quality issues; and
    • Compliance.
  • Ensure full compliance with other statutory obligations
  • Responsibility for the capture and control of legal expenditure
  • Manage use of and relations with external legal advisers
  • Participate in and drive strategic projects as required
  • Provide strategic advice to the business as and when required
  • Responsibility for global / regional projects as and when they arise

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Law or equivalent
  • Legally astute with experience to manage multiple law jurisdictions as well as a strong awareness of key global legal obligations for an MNC
  • To provide legal advice and support to each separate business unit in the region. You may take instructions directly from relevant managers within those businesses.
  • Commercially aware with a strong customer focus
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Agile and flexible in work ethic with ability to drive and deploy change management effectively
  • Efficient and effective with demonstrable success in building rapport with business leaders remotely within a complex organisational structure
  • Demonstrated strength with remote team leadership and development and able to work cross borders remotely
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Ability to drive, negotiate and implement global or regional commercial contracts
