Formative Search is partnering with a leading global private equity firm specializing in infrastructure and energy investments to recruit a Procurement Manager for their battery energy storage system (BESS) platform in Japan.The successful candidate will be responsible for equipment sourcing, EPC service procurement, and contract negotiations from development through construction commencement. This role requires coordination between local Japanese resources and regional technical/commercial teams while developing relationships with key vendors and authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead negotiations with potential suppliers and EPC contractors to secure favorable, bankable terms and conditions
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with company requirements for ESG, workplace health and safety, and other policies
- Develop effective contracting strategies in coordination with project teams and other departments
- Maintain a clear understanding of commercial drivers that influence private sector decision-making
- Create and tailor RFP/RFQ packages to execute approved procurement strategies and contracting plans
- Provide expert input in contract document preparation, ensuring proper inclusion of engineering, commercial, legal, and other requirements
- Continuously review and manage contractual obligations to ensure all terms and conditions are met
- Verify that contract pricing remains within the approved funding envelope for each project
- Collaborate with technical teams, project managers, and legal advisors throughout the procurement process
- Maintain relationships with equipment suppliers, EPC contractors, and relevant governmental authorities
- Coordinate between local Japanese resources and regional technical/commercial expertise
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance/accounting, engineering, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the power industry
- Proven track record of successfully negotiating EPC and equipment supply agreements for power infrastructure projects
- Experience with renewable energy projects is a plus
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
- Understanding of the Japanese energy market preferred
