Senior Business Development Manager, Green Hydrogen – India

Formative Search has begun a partnership with one of the world’s largest mining companies to support the build out of their Renewable Energy portfolio across Asia Pacific. With the whole world preparing to decarbonize as quick as possible, our client is expanding into the New Energies landscape, building and investing into Solar, Wind, Green Hydrogen, and other emerging new technologies. They have now asked us to hire a Senior Business Development Manager to lead their entry into India.

The Senior BDM will be responsible for all Origination, Business Development & Commercial engagement across India, while working to identify and securing add on business opportunities. In addition, they will drive the strategic direction via building & maintaining relationships with new and existing stakeholders and look to achieve set goals & targets to ensure a successful across the country.  


  • Identify business development opportunities and solutions, undertaking due diligence, risk management and end to-end project team management and problem solving.

  • Lead all aspects of the local portfolio through engagement, negotiations, commercial agreements and in-country set-up.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including Employees, Executive Team, Consultants and Service Providers.

  • Build & develop and maintain relationships with a diverse range of external stakeholders.

  • Lead the key relationships with Federal, Provincial, and local Government bodies associated with securing and developing the footprint within the country.

  • Build & operate risk and approval process to drive real strategy with a focus on early engagement, support and collaboration with global functional teams (technology, projects, legal, finance, tax, marketing, EHS, etc) ensuring leadership alignment at all levels required to obtain necessary decisions in a timely fashion.

  • Oversee engaged consultants to produce outcomes required to support development and delivery of the Portfolio.

  • Ability to prepare Commercial contracts and lead in-country negotiations as required, and plan, forecast and manage the in country budget.

  • Prepare board reporting as required and presentations to assist with promotion of the organisation.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the renewable energy and green hydrogen sector, including. competitors, potential partners and customers, key stakeholders, equipment manufacturers and costs.

  • Implement innovative ideas to improve project delivery and highlighting as the employee of choice.


  • At least 10 years of quality experience in renewable energy, and exposure to construction, infrastructure, mining or oil and gas.

  • Bachelor's  degree  in  Business  Administration,  Commerce,  or Engineering, and ideal to have an Masters.

  • Strong experience and good standing relationships with Central and State Governments across India.

  • Understanding of key project phases from origination, development, prefeasibility and design, financial investment decision, construction, and commissioning.

  • Successful track record in business development experience and a solid understanding of project management.

  • Ideal to have a passion and interest for the energy transition and in green hydrogen.

  • Needs to be genuine and honest to themselves and others, as well as values driven and showing high integrity.
